Villageworks Cambodia was founded in 2001 as a social enterprise and is based in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Villageworks' self-declared mission: to support vulnerable and marginalised groups by creating economic opportunities and promoting sustainable livelihoods. This includes, for example, training and providing skills to home-based workers in remote parts of rural Cambodia and people with disabilities in Phnom Penh.

Production therefore takes place mainly in villages – today, Villageworks works with producer groups in five different communities in Kampong Thom province, about 250 km from Phnom Penh, and distributes their products. In each community, Villageworks runs joint sewing workshops. There, the artisans, most of them women, work close to their houses and under the guidance of an experienced group leader. The result is a broad range of handicraft products, including bags or home accessories made from recycled cement sacks or advertising banners, but also scarves from pure silk, accessories from palm leaves or bags from hand-woven cotton. In addition to the village workshops, Villageworks also runs a coordination and training center in Baray.

The company has been a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) since 2015. It aligns its work with the 10 principles of Fair Trade.
